There's always those daily annoyances that tick us off and cause us to get stressed or angry. It can be the rude service person or the traffic on your way to work, or an injustice that you see happening all the time. No matter how zen or enlightened we are, the world still causes us to get pissed off every once in a while.
However, it does not have to be a permanent state we stay in, In fact, it is merely a state that will eventually pass or you can change at will. If you know how to do it you can change your state pretty instantly. This is pretty cool because our state dictates a lot of our experience of the world. For example, if you are angry then almost anything people say or do could seem annoying. The opposite is true if you are in a state of joy or happiness. Change your state, Change your strategy, Change your story!
Here are a few tricks (reframes) I use to diffuse the feelings of annoyance and change my state immediately.
1. I try to get fascinated instead of frustrated. I literally say to myself, "wow traffic is at a stand still, that is fascinating."
2. I mentally start listing all the things I'm grateful for in my life. Like my health and family and friends and my moped.
3. I re-spect (look again) to try and empathize with the person I'm getting annoyed with. This is very helpful when it is combined with strong boundaries...you don't need to take on the other person's state or feelings.
There's many other tricks but these are the ones I am using most often lately. Focusing on being happy and chill is a process and a practice just like everything else.
