To give you an idea of what it's all about, below I explain some common questions people have about hypnosis.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a focus inward. It's a state of relaxation that you go in and out of regularly and naturally. It's a way for your brain to relax. For example, when you day dream, drive in your car, watch TV or take a nap you go into hypnotic states. The powerful thing about this state is that you are very suggestible and can give yourself subconscious commands to imbed in your mind. You are always aware and in control while in hypnosis and you can't be forced to do anything in hypnosis that you don't want to do. Read this post on demystifying hypnosis to understand it better.
What is the difference between guided meditation and hypnosis?
In hypnosis the focus is on relaxing the mind in order to then give specific suggestions and commands directly to the unconscious mind so it can make certain changes. In guided meditation there are no suggestions given necessarily (though practicing meditation is a great tool for relaxing and focusing your mind). Also, really good hypnosis scripts use specific hypnotic language that helps to directly influence your unconscious mind, which is not the case in most guided meditation scripts.
Why is hypnosis so powerful?
Hypnosis is powerful because it can help you make changes at a deeper unconscious level. Remember 95% of who you are lies in the unconscious mind. When we focus inward we tend to evaluate things very differently. All of your beliefs, learning, memory, habits, feelings, movements and thoughts come from the unconscious mind. We do most of these things automatically without needing to think about them consciously. So, in order to change your beliefs and behavior permanently, shifts must occur at this deeper unconscious level. Hypnosis is a great tool to help you make those deeper changes.
How can I start doing self-hypnosis?
Currently I use various guided hypnosis audios form Hypnosis Live. Since my background and training is in hypnosis and NLP I am amble recognize that these audios are truly well produced. They integrate hypnotic language and NLP really well in their trance inductions and suggestions. I highly recommend these recordings for beginners and seasoned folks alike. You can download a free audio from them here (<--FREE GIFT!)
What is the difference between listening to a recording vs. going to a hypnotherapist?
The primary difference and drawback of listening to a per-recorded hypnosis audio is that it is not tailored to you specifically. The best hypnosis experience you will get is by going to see a great hypnotherapist in person. The reason it is better is because the session with be personalized, which makes the hypnosis effect more powerful. Sometimes when you listen to a recording it is difficult to accept the suggestions given in the recording. The Hypnosis Live audios simply have a topic focus such as, "attracting wealth," "improving memory," "visualizing success," or "exercise motivation." and they address changing the mindset of that general topic. If you are going to use recordings you want to make sure they are good.
How long do I have to do it for before I see results?
You will definitely feel an immediate difference and each time you do it you get better at going deeper into hypnosis. I've been listening daily for the past 3 months and from day 1 I felt an amazing shift inwardly and outwardly. It is recommended that you do it for at least 21 days in a row, but just know that the more you do it the quicker the effects. I personally love doing it as often as possible because it feels so good. It's like taking a really deep nap and waking up feeling profoundly relaxed and happy. It's been truly remarkable.
