Here are a few points about hypnosis that will hopefully help demystify it for you:
1. Hypnosis is a totally natural state.
It is nothing more than a focus of attention. The most simple definition of hypnosis is that it is a deep state of relaxation, that's it. It's actually not that complex. In fact everyone goes in and out of this state several times throughout the day, especially right before falling asleep and after waking up. You are totally conscious also while in hypnosis.
2. You can't get stuck in hypnosis.
Because it is a state that we go in an out of naturally, it is impossible to get "stuck" in it. The only thing that might happen is that you could fall asleep, which is not ideal when you are trying to shift something, but it is the worst thing that could happen.
3. You cannot be forced to do anything against your will while in hypnosis.
The unconscious mind, which is the part of the mind you are accessing in hypnosis, is there to preserve and protect you. It is there to make sure you don't do the things you can't handle yet and, at the same time, that everything you do is congruent with your core beliefs about the world. If you are given a suggestion while in hypnosis that is totally not aligned with your belief, or it makes you uncomfortable, then you will reject it.
4. All hypnosis is self hypnosis.
Just like I couldn't make you do anything against your will, I can't even make you go into a state of hypnosis. It is something you have to do to yourself. I can just help facilitate the process.
There are many reasons why this work is so powerful, which I can get into on another day. For all those science types out there, I can also explain what is happening in the brain during hypnosis (in another post). But hopefully this will give you a better idea and make you more open/curious about the transformative process of hypnotherapy.
