Try creating something new today. It could be a meal, a poem, a dance, a new
friendship, a new practice...anything!
I've been thinking about how much we consume things and criticize them and then
move on with our day. In our ever connected economy it's pretty easy to do that,
especially when it's facilitated by social media and our interconnected lives.
Everyone has an opinion and can easily share it with the world. To criticize others and their work is
a lot easier because of technology and because it feels safer to be on that side of the
Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's a bad thing to criticize and/or give feedback. In fact,
I believe feedback is a huge gift and totally necessary. I just wonder sometimes, for myself
included, how much time and energy we spend sharing our opinion of other people and their
work instead of focusing on creating our own thing.
I guess it feels a lot more vulnerable to create. Because if you create something and put it out
there it will receive feedback. Think about it though...whether it's positive or negative,
if it is worth talking about than you have created a conversation, which is actually pretty
impressive nowadays. In a world where we are consuming so much information that can be shared
a billion times a second and people's attention span in only 3 seconds, it is pretty
impressive if you have created something that people want to talk about.
I think you have done a pretty good job.
Anyway, I'm trying this new thing where I try to create more than I criticize. 'Cuz you know
we are all on our own path, and I think being on the receiving end of feedback is a gift and can
help me grow and learn.
What will you create today?
